BV Knapp was born in Mons, Belgium and raised in Heidelberg, Germany. He has written fiction, nonfiction and poetry for thirty years, while also creating a living in the music, publishing, and higher education industries. After dropping out of school, hitchhiking across North America and living in a trailer on the Amethyst Brook, he attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned a BA with Honors in History, and, on a roll, completed a Masters at Washington University in St. Louis and a PhD at Brown University. He was hit by a drunk driver and left to die in corn field while running, lost his hearing for a different reason, and, still maintaining a precarious existence, his kidneys failed. He received a new organ in 2010. He lives on Narragansett Bay with his wife and two boys and swims in mad cold water
